Battery in Diamond Anvil Cell

This project explores how pressure can improve the performance of next-generation all-solid-state lithium batteries, which could enable safer, longer-lasting, and higher-energy-density energy storage. A major challenge for these batteries is the growth of lithium dendrites and whiskers, which can cause short circuits and limit battery life. To better understand and control this problem, we combine all-solid-state Li–S batteries with diamond anvil cell technology, which allows extremely precise pressure tuning. Using in-situ X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, we can watch how the battery materials change in real time during charging and discharging. This approach helps reveal how pressure influences battery behavior and degradation, providing new insight for designing more reliable and efficient energy-storage systems.
